Fractional CFO · VP Finance · Business Advisory · Operations Leadership
Senior finance and operations leadership for high-growth startups and owner-operated businesses — from a team that has sat in your seat, faced your decisions, and knows what it actually takes to scale.
Who we serve
Most fractional CFO firms serve one type of client. We serve two by design. Venture and PE-backed founders building their financial foundation or racing toward their next raise, and owner-operated businesses that have outgrown a bookkeeper and need a genuine finance and operations partner. Our team has worked inside both worlds — and that dual experience is what makes the difference for our clients.
Seed through Series C companies and PE-backed businesses building their financial and operational foundation or preparing for their next raise — working with a CFO and operator who has personally led fundraising rounds, participated in board meetings and closed-door executive sessions, scaled teams and processes, and navigated the hard decisions that come with high-growth scale.
Companies generating $2M and above in revenue that need more than a bookkeeper — cash flow clarity, margin improvement, job profitability, operational structure, and exit readiness when the time comes. Our team has operated and advised owner-operated businesses directly, so we understand the financial realities that come with running one.
What we do
We cover the full spectrum — from monthly close and payroll to go-to-market strategy and capital advisory. Finance and operations are disciplines that compound when they work together. We deliver both, through one team.
Strategic financial leadership from a CFO who has personally led fundraising, navigated board dynamics, and managed the financial complexity of high-growth scale. Monthly close, cash flow forecasting, board preparation, fundraise strategy, unit economics, and investor-grade modeling — delivered with the instincts of someone who has been in your chair.
Raise the right capital at the right time, from the right partners. We help founders and business owners structure their capital strategy, build investor-ready materials, navigate term sheets, and manage the due diligence process — drawing on direct experience raising capital from premier institutional investors across venture and private equity.
We assess your current finance and operations workflows and identify where AI tools create meaningful ROI — significantly reducing manual work across both functions. That includes reducing monthly close times, improving forecast accuracy, optimizing pipeline to revenue forecasting, and multi-location consolidation. We also advise on AI strategy broadly: spend audits, ROI frameworks, and build vs. buy decisions.
Payroll administration, contractor compliance, worker classification, compensation benchmarking, headcount planning, and equity compensation modeling — including Carta administration and cap table management. We also advise on the selection and management of PEOs (Professional Employer Organizations) and own people costs as a finance function, because they are almost always your largest cost.
Operational leadership from a former Chief Business Officer who has built and scaled teams, owned go-to-market execution, and driven cross-functional performance at high-growth companies. We embed alongside your team to establish operating rhythm, surface the metrics that matter, and build the operational infrastructure that turns strategy into execution — including identifying and reducing redundant vendor spend across your technology and services stack.
Why Saltbox
Every engagement is led by a team that has operated at the CFO and CBO level inside high-growth companies. The experience you see on paper is the experience in the room with you.
Our team brings both CFO and CBO experience under one roof. The CBO role combined the responsibilities of a COO and CFO — meaning our operational and financial perspective are genuinely integrated, not bolted together. One engagement covers both, with no gaps between disciplines.
Our team has collectively held the CFO, CBO, Director of Finance, Head of Human Resources, and VP of Operations roles — not just advised on them. We bring the perspective of operators who have faced the same decisions you are facing now.
For business owners considering a sale, we have a defined process for preparing the business financially and operationally — not just advising on it abstractly.
The team
The Saltbox team has operated inside VC and PE-backed companies that have collectively raised more than $200M in capital, and worked directly with owner-operated businesses across trades, services, and distribution. That breadth — from high-growth startups to Main Street businesses — shapes how we think, how quickly we move, and how we engage with founders, owners, and boards alike.
Chief Executive Officer
Aakash has served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Business Officer (CBO) at venture-backed and PE-backed companies funded by NEA, Battery Ventures, Elysian Park Ventures, Notable Capital, Coatue Management, and SoftBank, among others. He brings two decades of finance, strategy, and operations leadership across Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, and Intuit, with a career rooted in technology investment banking and private equity. Aakash has also worked with one of the largest PE-backed ServPro franchises in the nation, driving process improvement, technology adoption, and margin expansion. He holds degrees in Finance and Accounting from Emory University and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.
"Working with Saltbox Advisors means you get more than a fractional CFO — you get operators who have lived the journey. They helped us build the financial infrastructure we needed to scale. They are a trusted extension of our team."

How it works
We move fast. Most engagements are scoped and active within one week of an initial conversation.
We learn your business, your stage, your immediate pressures, and where the biggest financial and operational gaps are. No pitch deck, no sales process — just an honest conversation.
We send a clear engagement proposal covering exactly what gets delivered across finance and operations. No surprises.
Access to your books, systems, and key points of contact. Full diagnostic of your financial and operational position. We hit the ground running from day one.
Weekly syncs, monthly close reviews, board prep, and operational check-ins establish the rhythm. Finance and operations run together, not in parallel.
Get in touch
